Alpaca fleeces were used by the ancient Incas since it makes for perfect bedding linen: warm in the winter and cool in the summer, as well as being luxuriously silky to touch. Unlike sheep’s wool, each strand is hollow, making it one of the lightest natural fibres available. It is this hollowness that accounts for its insulating properties. Alpaca fibres are also porous, and will absorb between 30% and 35% of their moisture, keeping you dry while asleep.
Since Alpaca fibre is clean, dry and porous, it is repellent to Dust mites. Dust mites are one of the main causes of asthma and allergies. For this reason Best of Alpaca 100% Pure Duvets are hypoallergenic, ideal for asthmatics and sufferers of other allergies.
Alpacas are known for their ‘personal hygiene’, whether in the wild or on farms, and are one of the cleanest animals in the world. Their fleeces contain much smaller amounts of lanolin than sheep’s wool, so they are a lot cleaner.
Alpacas are not farmed for meat, but only their fleeces, which are shorn once a year, making Best of Alpaca Duvets 100% renewable. Alpaca fleeces are acceptable to vegans and animal lovers.
Care Instructions: The optimum cleaning method for Best of Alpaca Duvets is a gentle dry-cleaning. However they may be washed in a washing machine set to the Wool/Delicate setting. Drying must take place on a clothes line. NEVER tumble dry. Using a duvet outer which can be laundered will reduce the need to launder the duvet itself.
